Autumn has been much warmer than usually; one good storm and the trees are bare.

Deze ‘stoppel’velden signaleren (voor mij): leegte, afscheid van een ‘grote’ zomer, een vleugje van melancholie (ik vind dat je zwaarte- witte ets dit gevoel nog duidelijker uitdrukt), maar ook herinnering an hard werk en ‘rijke’ oogst. Een herfst-beeld alhowel de bomen nog groen zijn zoals Jasper zei, anders dan in het volgende gedicht van Johann Gaudenz von Salis-Seewis

Herbstlied

Bunt sind schon die Wälder,
Gelb die Stoppelfelder,
Und der Herbst beginnt.
Rote Bltter fallen Graue Nebel wallen,
Kühler weht der Wind.

Coloured are the forests,
Yellow the harvested fields,
And the autumn begins.
Red leaves fall down,
grey fog lingers,
Cooler grows the wind.
