In the province of Groningen used to be the river Reitdiep, here the vast grassy expanse on the left. This has dried up a long time ago, but is still a (protected) landmark.

It just amazes me how what used to be water is now land and what is now water used to be land. Well, maybe not the other way around, I guess. Maybe it’s more that what was water is often now land in Holland. We live on a street in A’dam that used to be a canal! That blows my mind. :)
